Raj Chair

$7,314.00

The British Raj was the period during which most of the Indian subcontinent, or present-day India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Myanmar (Burma) were under the colonial authority of the British (1858 – 1947). “Raj” is derived from the Sanskrit 'rajya' (“rule”). Our Raj chair was inspired by a Victorian High Chair used in Colonial India in the mid 1800s, and retains the distinctive mix of English Colonial style and Indian craftsmanship and materials. We would love to send you the samples of our finishes. Feel free to send a request on info@sodegardglobal.com.

The strong frame is made of carved teak wood, and the visible parts of the arms and back are then covered in metal skin of copper, white bronze, brass or purest silver silver sheeting. The silver used was assayed at 96% purity, which exceeds the minimum standard for sterling of 92.5%.

Please note that moisture in air, sudden change in temperature and natural movement of wood over time causes the metal to wrinkle or bubble up. We use well seasoned, reclaimed teak and high quality marine grade MDF (wherever technically possible) to avoid and delay the above mentioned changes. However a perfect stability of metal cannot be guaranteed.

Please note that our smooth finish metal clad pieces will have some unavoidable tool marks. This is proof that everything is done by hand. The smooth finish will not come out like a machine made perfect surface and the master artisan will do their best to make it look as good/clean/stable/perfect as he possibly can.

Our hammered finishes are a much safer option if the tool mark scratches are unacceptable. The hammered finishes are also safer against eventual bubbling/wrinkles due to natural forces as mentioned above.

We would love to send you some samples before order confirmation so that the finish can be judged and experienced first hand.

Customization is our speciality. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with info@sodegardglobal.com for any queries regarding size, material or design customization.
